The Gandhi Hill or the Gandhi Stupa is located in the heart of the city is a major attraction in the city. The Gandhi Hill is located within Vijayawada city limits.
It is the first Gandhi memorial that has seven Stupas and is built on a hill. The Stupa is located at a height of 492 feet from the main sea level. It was inaugurated in October, 1968 by the then president of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. The Stupa is 52 feet tall and encloses stone slabs with inscriptions of Gandhi's teaching on it. The monument was built in the memory and honour of the Father of the Nation. There is also a Light and Sound Show depicting the life of Gandhi. The Gandhi Memorial Library and the Planetarium add to the specialty of the place. There is a Toy Train facility available for the kids that goes around the hill.
You can Visit the place only in the evenings and people usually spend about an hour exploring the place.
Along with paying your respects to the Father of the Nation and some learning and entertainment, you can also get a glimpse of the whole city from the top of the hill. This place should not be missed. The old and young can both have a good time here. The Gandhi Stupa can be visited during timings 4:30 PM - 8:30 PM on all days of the week except Tuesday. The entry ticket is INR 10 and INR 20 for the toy train ride.
