Located 10 kms away from the city of Shillong, the Sweet Falls are one of the steepest waterfalls in Meghalaya. The white waterfalls descend from a mighty height of 312 ft. The flow of the stream remains unbroken by any hindrance from large rocks and the water tumbles with tremendous force. Sweet falls are situated in the East Khasi Hills.

The Sweet Falls allure the tourists to dive into the splendor of nature. The falls drop amidst the exquisiteness of lofty mountains, green forests, colorful flowers, and warbling birds. The scenic beauty is so amazing that tourists tend to gaze at the scenery for several hours. However, the Sweet Falls are as dangerous as they are gorgeous. There are no proper barricades installed for safety and the absence of such safety measures have resulted in a number of fatal accidents. In spite of the negative publicity, Sweet Falls is an admired picnic spot where people enjoy the natural grandeur maintaing a significant distance from the danger areas.

In addition to the wonderful scenic beauty of the falls, there is a mini zoo and a butterfly museum which add to the uniqueness of this place. The best time to visit this exquisite site is during the monsoon season when the streamline flow of the river and the width of the falls increases to an enormous extent. It is advisable to spend not less than 2 hours at Sweet Falls.

The Sweet Falls is a calm and relaxing place, not as crowded as most of the other natural picnic spots. The place can be visited anytime in the day. The place remains open for all the 7 days of the week and has a vehicle entry fee of INR 70.
