Manakula Vinayagar Temple is a historic Hindu Temple situated in the union territory of Puducherry is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Jawahar Toy Museum is located at a distance of 25 kms from the Pondicherry city center.
The Manakula Vinayagar Temple is of substantial antiquity and history as it is a 500 year old temple. The main deity of this temple is Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is considered to be the Lord of knowledge and wisdom. In ancient times, there was a pond situated at the western end of this temple. And due to the proximity of the sea nearby, the pond had innumerable amounts of sand in it. At the moment, the temple fits into an area of 7913 square feet with 2 rows of each 33 idols and 25 idols of the Lord, respectively.
Special rituals and prayers are held for devotees all throughout the day when the temple is open. The famous and auspicious GOLDEN CHARIOT made out of pure gold is used to carry the deity around the vicinity of the temple on special and auspicious days. The Golden Chariot is a visual spectacular as it is made of 7. 5kgs of pure gold, costing Rs. 35 lakhs, with a height of 10ft and a breadth of 6ft.
Visitors and devotees are allowed to enter the temple, pay respect and seek blessings of the Lord at rigid timings in 2 batches: Morning batch timings 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM and Evening batch timings 4:30 PM - 9:00 PM. There prevails fees to be paid for certain specific special prayers, which range from Rs. 5/- per person to Rs. 10,000. The temple generously distributes prasadham (blessed food) three times a day on all days of the week.
