The Botanical Garden is a historic garden and a tourist attraction in Puducherry city which was once called Colonial Park. It is located towards the south of the New Bus Stand. A popular tourist attraction of Pondicherry, Botanical Garden was established by C. S. Perrotet in the year 1862. The garden is home to several exotic varieties of rare plants as well as an aquarium. It is located with Puducherry city limits.

A mix of endangered and exotic species of plants is spread out all over the place. There are 28 plots dividing the Botanical Garden and each has a separate theme. The garden was started by the French colonists on an experimental basis to analyze the crops that could be cultivated in the region. Later trees were planted here and Perrottet was instrumental in transforming the place into a botanical garden in 1831. His memorial can be seen inside the premises. Aquarium is an interesting place to visit which abodes diverse collection of aquatic organisms as well as fish flora

The Botanical Gardens sprawls over a 22 acre area and also offers Toy train rides. The Botanical Garden also houses six fountains one of which is a musical and dancing fountain - active on weekends, with two shows in the evening. It also boasts of a Japanese rock structure.

Train rides are chargeable and require a minimum head count to start. Visiting the Aquarium is also chargeable - Adults: Rs. 10/- and Children: Rs. 5/- for the aquarium. Visitors can visit The Botanical Garden during timings 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
