The Bharathi Park also known as the Government Park, is a public park and recreational area in the Pondicherry city. Bharathi Park is at the historic centre of the French Precinct of Pondicherry's Boulevard Town and was traditionally known as: Place du Government. Bharathi Park is located within Puducherry city limits, at around 3. 5kms from the city center.
Bharathi Park is one of the main attractions in Pondicherry. Until the 1940s the Park was used as a parade ground for the colonial government. The Government Park or Bharati Park is in the green centre of the town. The Aayi Mandapam is a famous monument which lies at the center of the Bharati Park. The significance of this park is derived from the fact that it is surrounded by some of the most important government buildings like the Lt. Governor's Palace, the Legislative Assembly, Government Hospital, Ashram Dining Room, the Cercle de Pondichery private club, and the old Hotel Qualite. Park is located very close to Promenade Beach. White colour monument Aayi Mandapam is located in the center of park.
There are no entry/admission fees for Bharathi Park, it free for everyone to visit. Visitors can visit Bharathi Park during timings 6:30 AM - 8:00 PM. People typically spend around an hour or so in Bharathi Park.
