Auroville Beach is a sandy beach situated along the shoreline of the east coast of the peninsula. Another name for the beach is Auro Beach, meaning it is in the Auroville region. Auroville Beach is one of the more popular beaches in the Pondicherry area. Auroville Beach is a popular destination for tourists and thus it gets pretty crowded on the weekends. Auroville Beach is located at a distance of around 11 kms from Pondicherry city, and it takes about 25-30 minutes to get to the beach

Auro beach is a 2 kilometer stretch on the coast. There are several entry and exit points to the beach due to the long stretch. Auroville Beach has soft black volcanic sand that is golden in color. The softness of the sand makes it very pleasing to take a walk on the beach. Along the shore, there are hotels and guesthouses, making it very convenient to get to the beach whenever. There are many shack joints present in the vicinity of Auroville Beach. Shacks for food, drinks, rental bikes and many other things are present for the benefit of the tourists.

The waters at the beach are good for swimming as the waves are small and the water is shallow. Auro Beach is a good spot for surfers, and expert or beginner swimmers. Surfers usually practice their surfing skills early in the morning. People can go for a fun, refreshing bike rides along the road near the coastline.

The best time to visit this beach or Pondicherry in general, would be in winter months, from November to March. Visitors can visit Auroville Beach during timings 5:00 AM - 7:00 PM. There is no entry free as it is an open beach.
