Shree Kanteshwar Temple or Neelkanteshwar temple is one of the oldest temples in the state of Telangana dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Nizamabad city limits. It is three kilometers from the city center or it is a 10-minute drive from Nizamabad to the temple. Many people visit the temple on a daily basis.
Devoted to Lord Shiva, Sri Neelakanteshwara temple or Kanteshwar temple is located in the Kanteshwar colony of Nizamabad. This temple is renowned for its stunning architecture. The temple is around 500 years old. Lord Shiva derives his name of Neelkanteshwar because of his blue throat. There is an exciting story behind the bluing of Shiva's throat. Apart from Lord Shiva, the other deities worshiped are God Satyanarayana and Goddess Annapurna. According to the history books and scriptures, Kanteshwar Temple was constructed by the Satavahanas. King Satakarni II built the temple for the Jains as he was tolerant towards other religions too. Later during Kakatiya period, the temple was converted as a Shiva temple. The monumental temple is constructed using Nagara architecture. The artwork on walls and pillar of the temple depicts the great architectural history.
Visitors can ideally spend around an hour, on a visit to the Shree Kanteshwar Temple. Shree Kanteshwar Temple can be visited during timings 6:00 AM - 7:30 PM. The temple remains open on all days of the week. The temple has the facility of lunch everyday afternoon.
