Guru Nanak Dev visited this place in 1505 AD and met Srimanta Sankardeva on his way when he travelled from Dhaka to Assam. Gru Teg Bahadur established the temple in the 17th century. Around 50,000 devotees of all religions from all over the country and the world gather in this shrine every year in December to mark the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
