The collection includes the portraits of Indian freedom fighters, rare documents, sculptures, ceramic murals, books on the freedom struggle, photos and paintings illustrating key players and events in the struggle for independence. The gallery portraits India's determined struggle for independence. It also holds voice recordings of great leaders of India and rare documents in connection with the freedom struggle. The display includes photographs of people who participated in the freedom struggle as also those of various historic events and incidents. The gallery also has an incredible collection of books and the recorded speeches of the leaders including the Mahatma. It also houses a library that archives a huge collection of books on the freedom movement. National Gallery of Portraits also screens a film on the freedom movement of India on every Sunday at 2 pm. The Gallery's prime collection is on Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi.

National Gallery of Portraits is located behind the State Library. This is a government-maintained gallery which is home to photos and paintings illustrating key players and events in the struggle for India's independence. Free guided tours are available here in English at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Visitors could visit the gallery during timings 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM. There is no entry free. The visit duration is for 2 to 3 hours.
