Tower Chowk (square) is one of the well known landmark of the city, not more than two kms from the city centre in front of the Shastri Stadium. It is said to be the centre point of Akola and all the transport to travel to any part of the city is available here.

The name Tower Chowk is derived from the famous monument here, called Sundarbai Khandelwal Tower. This tower is a historical landmark built on 12th of February, 1942 in the memory of Sundarbai, an eminent lady. The foundation stone was laid by Member of Parliament Shri. Gopalrao Bajirao Khedkar on 2nd October, 1960 and was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Shri. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is a four storey building with a huge watch on the top in the fashion similar to the Big Ben in London. The monument was built with stones which were made available from the famous quarry of Shirla (Andhare), 25 kms from here. The best car accessories shops can be found in this square. Many other shopping centres are also opened and hence it is the most crowded place of the city.

Among the nearby attarctions to visit are Balapur Fort, Narnala Sanctuary and Narnala Fort. The best season to visit is from October to March (winter). Usually people are found visiting this site in the evening to explore the night life of the city.

The time required for exploring the place is around half an hour. Taxi, cabs, buses all are available to take passengers to the Tower Chowk as this is among the main parts of the city. It is advised to carry a water bottle as the climate in this area remains hot during the day.
